Try the ECO BOOST engine. The timing belt is a wet belt. Debris blocks the filter and oil ways eventually failing prematurely. IF you have full service history with the oil RECOMMENDED by Ford, you may get covered by warranty.

I work in a shop and we will never work on this piece of crap. ..never...

It sure seems like they try to build in the need for servicing the vehicles to drive more Sales after the purchase. I wish they all would just build a very high quality product with a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty for a reasonable price.

Oil degrades rubber. Seems like they've placed a time limit on how long the engine is allowed to live before it grenades itself. Making it impractical to replace the belt preemptively is just the cherry on top.

I'm in the UK and in 1991 I bought a brand new Ford Escort. I'd not owned it for very long and things started to go wrong; at the end of the three year contract I couldn't wait to get rid of it. The car was under-powered, trim came off inside and out, it had a little jumping misfire around 38mph (every time!), all the lighting failed on the dashboard (three times), the passenger seat became loose, the rear foot-wells flooded every time it rained leaving the carpet soaked for days, the brakes warped (no fault of mine), the sunroof leaked, the front windows let wind come in at 50mph+ so you had a nice whistling sound, a rear brake light panel completely failed combined with indicator and reversing lights, and sound proofing was crap at motorway speeds. Looking back, a combination of recalls made by Ford and me taking the car continuously back to the garage for repair, if it hadn't been under warranty, I'd be bankrupt!! I'm sure it spent more time in the garage than on the road... I'll never touch a Ford again!!!
